Klippa was acquired by SER and has been called Doxis since 2026. What that means, why teams leave, which alternatives exist, and when you simply stay.

Klippa is the Groningen company that became known for strong AI document recognition and fraud detection. In March 2025 it was acquired by Germany's SER, and since March 2026 it has carried the Doxis brand.
The product names changed with it, and for this page that is the important thing to keep straight. SpendControl, the line for invoices and expenses with its own invoice mailbox and company cards, is now Doxis SpendControl. DocHorizon, the broad document automation with OCR APIs and fake-document detection, is now Doxis AI.dp. If you are looking for an invoice processing alternative, this is about SpendControl.
People looking for an alternative usually do so for one of three reasons.

Why finance teams look for an alternative
1. No three-way matching, and two-way only on SAP
Purchase orders, goods receipts and matching do not appear in the product documentation or the help centre of Doxis SpendControl. The Exact Online integration mentions "OCR for purchase orders", which is recognising a purchase order as a document, not laying an invoice alongside one.
The only matching Doxis documents sits in the FAQ of the SAP Business ByDesign integration: synchronise purchase orders from SAP and match them against the purchase invoice. If you are on Exact, NetSuite or Microsoft Dynamics, that option falls away too.
What a two-way match does and does not see. A two-way match puts the invoice next to the purchase order and answers one question: did we order this, at this price, in this quantity? It is good at that, and for a large share of your spend it is exactly enough. For subscriptions, rent, insurance and consultancy there is no third document to compare, and a two-way match is the right instrument.
A three-way match adds that third document: the receipt. It answers the question a two-way match cannot ask, which is whether the goods actually arrived.
The distinction we hold to at Claridy is not whether there is matching, but against how many documents. Order a hundred units, receive sixty, and have the supplier invoice a hundred, and a two-way match sees nothing wrong. The invoice matches the order exactly: same item, same price, same quantity. It passes straight through and you pay for forty units that never arrived.
The same holds for everything around it. A partial delivery with the rest to follow next month. Goods returned damaged after the invoice had already gone out. A delivery refused at the door. In every one of those cases the invoice agrees with the order, and reality agrees with neither.
There is a further consequence that only shows up at the close. The interim account between goods received and invoices received can only be cleared if both sides are in the system. Leave the receipt side out of the matching and that account keeps filling with differences nobody resolves systematically, until someone works through them by hand at the end of the quarter.
When this matters. If you mostly buy services and hold no stock, this is not an argument. A two-way match is sufficient and a three-way match solves a problem you do not have. If you work with purchase orders and goods receipts, this is the reason you look further, and it is not about a better version of the same thing but about a capability that is not there.
A note on the blog articles. The Doxis site carries thorough guides on three-way matching, on two-way matching, and on comparing invoices, delivery notes and purchase orders. That is good content, and it is not the same thing as a feature. This is not unique to this vendor and it is not deception, but it does mean you have to ask the same question of every vendor in this category: is it in the product documentation and the help centre, or is it on the blog? At Doxis, three-way matching is on the blog. The same goes for credit card reconciliation.
2. Invoice processing is one application among many
Klippa's strength was always document recognition in the broad sense: passports, receipts, contracts, invoices. That is a different starting point from software built only for Dutch accounts payable, with the VAT codes, the accounting conventions and the integrations that come with it.
It also explains where it stops. A platform serving ten document types does not go deep on one of them. For anyone who only wants to process purchase invoices, it is a broad platform for a narrow question. None of this is a verdict on Doxis; it is the boundary of what we call the second generation: software that automates the reading and the preparation, after which the work that needs judgement is left over.
3. Acquisition, a new name, and the sales process that comes with it
Search for Klippa and you land in a transition story. The product still exists, but it now sits inside a larger German document platform, with the roadmap and the sales process that come with it. For existing customers that is mostly uncertainty about where their invoice flow sits on the priority list.
In practice you notice it in how you get started. The invoice flow sits inside a sales process that suits a document platform, not an SME that wants to be live next month. Blue10, Zenvoices and TriFact365 are live in days.
None of this is a verdict on the technology. On recognition and fraud detection it is strong, and it stays strong. The question is whether the product fits your situation.
Claridy: the alternative from a different category
Claridy (generation 3: the intelligent action layer), measured by the same standard. The difference can be tested with one question: what happens to the invoice that does not match? With every tool above, a task is created for a human. With Claridy that task is created for the agent first, which works out why the difference is there and what has to happen about it. Only if that fails does it reach your team, with the preparation done.
Where Doxis is broad across document types, Claridy is deep on one process, including the three-way match against order and receipt that is missing there. Beyond that: line-level three-way matching, and coding that learns from your own corrections, because a correction becomes a rule itself. Runs on Exact Online, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics 365, and that last one is the sharpest distinction on this page: not one of the capture tools above runs on NetSuite.
Claridy keeps no books of its own. It reads from your ERP and writes back to it, and what it remembers is rules and decisions, not balances. Switch it off and your books are exactly as they were. That is the difference between a layer and a lock-in, and on a page about switching that is the question you should put to every vendor here.
Price: € 499 per month flat, three-way matching € 250 per month extra, no price per invoice, per document or per user, cancellable monthly.1 Where it stops: we do not do passports or general document automation. If you want an OCR API for ten document types, Doxis AI.dp serves you better.

One thing stands out reading the ERP column top to bottom: this market is built on Exact. If you are on NetSuite or Microsoft Dynamics 365, most of the category drops out before you get to features. Claridy runs on all three, and for some readers of this page that is the only thing that matters.
Features and prices checked against the vendors' own sites on 2026-08-13. Basecone and Continia prices are not public and run through your firm or partner.
More context on the three generations of technology and all vendors: the comparison guide to accounts payable software. The difference between two-way and three-way matching is worked out in the article on three-way matching. What Claridy does with the purchase invoice, from mailbox to payment preparation, is on Procure to Pay; the price on the pricing page.
What Doxis SpendControl costs
The prices are on their site, and it pays to look past the entry figure.
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Effective | € 95/mo, up to 4,000 invoices per year, up to 10 active users |
| Premium | € 275/mo, up to 12,000 invoices per year, up to 30 active users |
| Custom | price on request, with SSO and API access |
| Digital approval flows | + € 50/mo on Effective |
| Accounting system integration | from + € 50/mo |
| ERP integration | from + € 100/mo |
| Invoices above the bundle | from € 0.28 per invoice |
So an SME on Exact that wants invoice processing with an approval flow and an integration is at € 195 per month, not € 95. When you compare, always include the integration and the flow, because you need both.
When you simply stay with Klippa
If you use it for more than invoices, so also for identity documents, contracts or receipts inside your own application, then the breadth is exactly why you are there, and Dutch payables software has nothing to offer you.
The fraud detection on fake documents and bank statements is another real reason to stay. That is a specialism, and it is not something a payables tool throws in.
And if you mostly buy services without purchase orders, reason 1 on this page does not apply to you. An alternative pays off only once you process nothing but purchase invoices, or once you work with orders and receipts and the matching is missing.
Frequently asked questions
No. Klippa was acquired by Germany's SER in March 2025 and has carried the Doxis brand since March 2026. The product still exists. SpendControl is now Doxis SpendControl and DocHorizon is now Doxis AI.dp.
Not according to the product documentation. Purchase orders, goods receipts and matching do not appear in the Doxis SpendControl help centre. The only matching documented sits with the SAP Business ByDesign integration and covers matching an invoice against a purchase order, so a two-way match. A two-way match sees whether you ordered something at the agreed price, but not whether it was delivered. The Doxis blog does carry thorough articles on three-way matching.
There is no best alternative, only a best alternative for your particular complaint. A Dutch payables tool on Exact: Blue10, Zenvoices or TriFact365. Twinfield firm: Basecone. Business Central: Continia. Cards and expenses: a spend platform. Three-way matching and the work after recognition: Claridy.
€ 95 per month for Effective, up to 4,000 invoices a year and ten users, and € 275 for Premium, up to 12,000 invoices and thirty users. On top of that come approval flows from € 50 per month, an accounting integration from € 50 and an ERP integration from € 100. Invoices above the bundle cost from € 0.28 each. Checked on 2026-08-13, and worth checking again, because prices and plan names usually change after an acquisition.
The SpendControl product documentation lists no feature for applying bank transactions to open items. What it does carry is a blog article about credit card reconciliation, and that is not the same as a feature. If you are looking for software that applies bank transactions to open items, you are looking in a different category.
Of the capture tools on this page, only Blue10 connects to NetSuite, and that is a connection for delivering invoices. Zenvoices runs on Exact and AFAS, TriFact365 on Exact, AFAS, SnelStart, King and Twinfield, Basecone on Twinfield and Exact, ScanSys on more than sixty systems including Dynamics 365, and Elvy on the broadest list including Business Central. For NetSuite and Dynamics 365 Finance you end up with Medius or with Claridy. Claridy runs reading and writing back on Exact Online, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics 365, without anything migrating.
Work it out with the calculator, which uses the automatable shares from our analysis of 21,642 Dutch finance job postings.
