Alternatives to Elvy (2026): options, costs and when to stay

Elvy connects to more accounting systems than almost anyone in this category, matches at line level and does not charge per administration. Which alternatives exist, what they cost, and when you simply stay.

Elvy is Dutch invoice processing software with a connection list that stands out: Exact Online and Exact Globe, but also AFAS, AccountView, King, Multivers and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It is one of the few that also runs on-premise. There are modules for approval, purchase orders, budgeting, commitments and contract registration, plus an app for expense claims. The price is simply on their site, which in this category is the exception rather than the rule.

Anyone with a broad ERP landscape, or a requirement that it runs on their own servers, gets a long way here. People looking for an alternative usually do so for one of three reasons.

What Elvy does well

Four things, and all four are on their own site.

It can run on your own servers. Of the packages in this overview, Elvy is close to the only one still offering that. If your software has to sit inside your own walls, for whatever reason, this is not a trade-off but an answer: most of the alternatives below run in the cloud only, and the comparison stops before it starts.

The matching is a real three-way, at line level. Order, receipt and invoice are laid against each other, and the comparison covers quantities and item prices: "Bij het boeken van een factuur kan Elvy aan de hand van verschillende gegevens, zoals aantallen en artikelprijzen, de factuur matchen." It sits in the € 119 per month package, as long as your ERP holds the order and the receipt.

Administrations are unlimited. "Je betaalt bij Elvy ook niet per administratie, dit aantal is onbeperkt voor een vaste prijs." For anyone running five entities that is a real price difference with almost everyone in this comparison.

The connection list is the broadest here. AccountView, KING, SnelStart, CASH, iMUIS, Odoo, MKG: accounting systems most parties in this category do not reach. And it can run on your own servers.

So people looking for an alternative are not doing so because Elvy falls short of what it promises. It comes down to four other things.

The best alternatives to Elvy

Why finance teams look for an alternative

1. The training never stops

Elvy calls the recognition self-learning, and it says so on four of their ERP pages: "Met de zelflerende herkenningstechnologie van Elvy worden alle facturen automatisch herkend."

In practice you hear something else. Underneath sits a correction layer, "Leer Elvy", where you point out per supplier where a field sits on the invoice. That works positionally: the data has to be in the same place every time, and you set it up per administration. In practice that is building templates, only it is called something else.

With a stable supplier base that is fine: you do it once and it serves you for years. The sum tips with a long tail of suppliers you see twice a year, or with suppliers who change their invoice layout. Then the training keeps going, and that work is in nobody's job description.

2. The bill stacks up faster than the entry price suggests

€ 119 per month is a clear number, and it is more than most parties in this category publish. It is rarely your whole bill though.

If your ERP does not hold orders and receipts, you need Elvy Inkoopmanagement on top and you pay € 169. If more than one bookkeeper works in the system at the same time, every extra concurrent user is € 29 per month or € 495 one-off. If you want to receive e-invoices over Peppol, that runs through Elvision, a separate platform whose price is not on the site. And a connection to an industry or bespoke system is a quote, not a rate.

None of that is hidden. It just does not sit together, and that is exactly why comparing on the entry price misleads. Work it out for your own situation: how many concurrent users, purchasing module or not, Peppol or not.

3. The difference is filtered out, not sorted out

Matching is one thing. What happens when it does not match is the other, and that is where the category ends.

Elvy describes it like this: "Elvy herkent afwijkingen bij het matchen met de factuur en filtert deze eruit voor een extra controle." If the invoice falls within the set margins it is approved automatically and queued for payment. If it falls outside, it sits with a person.

That person then has to work out what we call the real work. Is this a price difference or a partial delivery? Was there a back order? Is there a surcharge that was not on the order? Is there a credit note against it? That differs case by case, and it is exactly the part no tolerance setting solves for you.

In our time model it is also the largest block: of the 21.2 hours a month at five hundred invoices, 6 hours go into investigating differences. More than reading, posting and reconciling combined.

4. One mailbox per administration

Unlimited administrations in the licence is not the same as one entrance. Elvy's own manual advises an invoice address per administration, with subfolders or sender filtering as alternatives.

In practice that means someone sorting the post. A supplier does not respect your structure: the same party invoices two of your entities, sometimes on one document. Anyone running three entities knows the daily forwarding nobody budgeted for.

Claridy: the alternative from a different category

Claridy (generation 3: the intelligent action layer), measured by the same standard. The difference can be tested with one question: what happens to the invoice that does not match? With all the software above, a task is created for a person. With Claridy that task is first created for the agent, which works out why the difference is there and what has to happen about it. Only if that fails does it reach your team, with the groundwork done.

The difference with Elvy sits in what happens after the match. Where Elvy filters the deviating invoice out for a check by a person, that same invoice goes to the agent first with us, which pulls in the order, the receipt and the earlier email from the supplier and comes back with a proposal. And one entrance serves all your entities: the invoice is recognised and routed to the right administration, even when two entities appear on one document.

Claridy keeps no administration of its own. It reads from your ERP and writes to it, and what it remembers are rules and decisions, not balances. Switch it off and your books look exactly as they did before.

Price: € 499 per month fixed, three-way matching € 250 per month extra, no price per invoice, per document or per user, cancellable monthly.¹ Where it stops: below roughly a hundred invoices a month there is too little repetition to learn from, and then Elvy is cheaper. And Claridy runs on Exact Online, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics 365, so if you are on AccountView, Multivers or King we are not an option and Elvy is.

One thing stands out reading the ERP column: Elvy covers accounting systems nobody else serves. AccountView, Multivers and King appear at almost no other party in this table. If you are on those, the comparison is Elvy against doing it by hand rather than Elvy against an alternative.

When you simply stay with Elvy

If you run AccountView, Multivers or King, or your software has to sit on your own servers, this is a short consideration. Elvy is one of the few serious options there, and switching means changing your ERP landscape first.

If you record orders in your ERP, including the receipt, Elvy does exactly what it promises: matching at line level for € 119 a month, across as many administrations as you have. There is little to gain in the alternatives there.

An alternative only pays off when the investigating after the match fills your week, or when forwarding between mailboxes has become a daily task.
